چکیده

Two d i f f e r e m kynthetic diamond-based Xray transmitting beam position monitor (XBPM) prototypes have been studied with an undulator white beam at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) ID-6 beamline. Of particular interest was the possibility of designing an integral window and filtedphoton beam position monitor for the Advanced Photon Source (APS) high heat flux insertion device beamlines. The photoelectron-emission type transmitting XBPM prototype uses a 25-mm-diameter7 175-micron-thick CVDdiamond disk with 0.2-micron-thick electrically isolated patterns of aluminum coating on one side of the diamond disk. The photoelectron emission signal was collected fiom the aluminum-coat surface to provide the beam position information. A novel photoconductive-type transmitting XBPM prototype uses the same CVD-diamond disk, but patterns of aluminum coating were applied on both sides of the diamond disk. A DC bias voltage was used to generate the current signal, which is based on photoconductive properties of the CVD-diamond. Test results are presented in the paper.

Cvd-diamond-based Position Sensitive Photoconductive Detector for High-flux X-rays and Gamma Rays

A position-sensitive photoconductive detector (PSPCD) using insulating-type CVD diamond as its substrate material has been developed at the Advanced Photon Source (APS). Several different configurations, including a quadrant pattern for a x-ray-transmitting beam position monitor (TBPM) and 1-D and 2-D arrays for PSPCD beam profilers, have been developed. Tests on different PSPCD devices with hi...

Orbit Feedback Using X-ray Beam Position Monitoring at the Advanced Photon Source

The Advanced Photon Source (APS) was commissioned in 1995 as a third-generation x-ray user facility. At that time orbit control was performed exclusively with broadband rf beam position monitors (BPMs). Since then, emphasis has been placed on incorporating x-ray beam position monitors into the orbit control algorithms. This has resulted in an order of magnitude improvement in long-term beam sta...

Fundamental Limits on Beam Stability at the Advanced Photon Source

Orbit correction is now routinely performed at the few-micron level in the Advanced Photon Source (APS) storage ring. Three diagnostics are presently in use to measure and control both AC and DC orbit motions: broad-band turn-by-turn rf beam position monitors (BPMs), narrow-band switched heterodyne receivers, and photoemission-style x-ray beam position monitors. Each type of diagnostic has its ...

A Front End Design for the Advanced Photon Source

1. INTRODUCTION X-ray sources on next generation low emittance/high brilliance synchrotrons such as the 7-GeV Advanced Photon Source (APS) (1) have unique properties which directly affect the design of the front end of the beam line. The most striking of these are the large peak photon power densities expected for the insertion device (ID) x-ray sources. Undulators. for example. can have highly...

Commissioning of the APS Real-Time Orbit Feedback System

A unified global and local closed-orbit feedback system has been implemented at the Advanced Photon Source in order to stabilize both particle and photon beams. Beam stability requirements in the band up to 50Hz are 17μm in the horizontal plane and 4.4μm vertically. Orbit feedback algorithms are implemented digitally using multiple digital signal processors, with computing power distributed in ...
